"The twelve princesses all slept together in a great room, their beds standing side by side. -Grimm"
This, the fourth book in the superb Catholic fiction Fairy Tale Novel series branches off with a new cast of characters led by Paul, a COR buddy of Rose's from Waking Rose. While readers may at first lament the loss of the characters they have become attached to in the earlier books, they'll soon grow fond of the new cast of memorable personalities that awaits them here.
Rachel, 18, is tired of her father and stepmother's staid morality and pristine prosperity. The summer of her senior year, she's more than ready for a walk on the wild side, and the door opens - literally - when she and her eleven younger sisters and stepsisters discover a secret passageway out of their historic home on the Chesapeake Bay. At night, boys in boats and a forbidden island beckon from the shore, and Rachel and her sisters jump aboard. Night becomes Rachel's world, and her daytime life becomes a mask. Her father senses something amiss and enlists the help of level-headed, med student Paul to help get his daughters back in the fold. But Paul soon realizes that simply blocking the girls from their midnight parties isn't going to solve the family's problems. He embarks on a risky balancing act to gain the girls' trust and to help Rachel see that splitting her life between night and light is a dangerous dance. Along the way a charming summer romance develops.
Paperback, 216 pages, 6" x 9". Mature14+.
Please Note: We suggested the first three books in this series for mature, more sophisticated readers of 13+ years. You'll want to know that our recommendation for this title is mature 14+ because it includes more edgy behavior than the others. These teen age characters push the envelope and find rather creative ways to act out their rebellious thoughts. But fear not! In the end they are brought to their senses, realize the value of true friendship, and discover that obedience and goodness can actually be fun. In the meantime however, the action includes sophisticated social and moral issues (read this as drinking teens subject to alcohol-induced behaviors). Please consider your teen's level of social awareness, and personal and moral developement. You know your teen best!
