SAINT KATHARINE DREXEL: The Total Gift

Born in 1858 in Philadelphia, Katharine Drexel grew up in a wealthy family who taught her that good fortune was a gift from God to be used to help others. She became a nun and founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament in 1891, whose purpose was teaching Native Americans and African American who were not at that time receiving equal educational opportunities. The Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament created 63 schools in 13 states in just a few years. Sister Katharine was not content with simply teaching the Catholic faith. She tried to change the social conditions that bred poverty and illness and to make others feel responsible for their fellow human beings. Paperback, 140 pages, includes prayer and glossary.
