ENCOUNTER THE SAINTS SAINT JOAN OF ARC: God's Soldier |
|
Born in 1412 in the village of Domremy, France, Joan received a solid religious education. She was know for her piety and kindness to the poor. Joan lived during a time of war - France and England had been fighting for nearly 100 years. At the age of 13, Joan began receiving visions of saints who told her she had been chosen by God to lead France to victory. Though she was initially unable to believe this was her true task, she eventually convinced the leader of the French army to give her command of his troops. The English were defeated and Charles VII became the King of France. Joan was hailed as the savior of France. However, some French leaders hated her, and she was betrayed and sold to the English. They tried her as a heretic and had her burned at the stake in 1431. Paperback, 22 chapters, prayer and glossary, 127 pages. Ages 7-12.
