ENCOUNTER THE SAINTS SAINT ISAAC JOGUES: With Burning Heart |
|
Isaac Jogues was born at Orleans, France, in 1607. He was ordained a Jesuit priest. In 1636 he went to Canada to preach the Gospel to Indian tribes. Fr. Jogues believed that each and every soul is valuable to God, and it was his duty to bring the souls of others to God. He made many converts, but some Indians believed the Jesuits were witches who brought famine and sickness. He and several companions were captured by the Mohawk tribe. They were tortured and put to death in 1646. St. Isaac is called the Apostle of the Mohawks and is one of a group of eight missionaries known as the North American Martyrs. Paperback, 20 chapters, prayer and glossary, 127 pages. Ages 7-12.
