ENCOUNTER THE SAINTS SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI: Gentle Revolutionary |
|
Francis was a wealthy young man from Assisi, Italy. He enjoyed fine things and lively parties, and even fought as a soldier in the local militia. Despite his extravagant lifestyle, he felt sympathy for the poor and often gave money to the needy. Because Francis believed that God Himself spoke to him while he was praying one day, asking him "Francis, rebuild My church," he sold his belongings and rebuilt his local church with his own hands. He realized that his call was to rebuild the entire Catholic Church on a foundation of merciful works. He started the order of Franciscan brothers and nuns to carry on his mission of helping the poor. Paperback, 26 chapters, prayer and glossary, 114 pages. Ages 7-12.
